Run is the latest movie by the director Aneesh Chaganty, with writing credits of both him and Sev Ohanian. It stars Kiera Allen and Sarah Paulson and while it is short and simple, this is one of the best thrillers to come out this 2020.
This is a no-spoiler review, however, we will talk about its premise so if you want to avoid learning some startling information you better watch the movie first!

Can’t Run From A Mother’s Love
Chloe is a homeschooled teenager in a wheelchair, that lives alone with her mother Diane. They have a seemingly normal and loving relationship. She feeds her medications every day, and carefully prepares every single meal to make sure her health is kept in check, as Chloe suffers from several conditions ranging from diabetes and high pressure.
One day Chloe realizes the medications her mother has been giving her were actually not intended for her. She also notices some strange behaviors and patterns, so she starts digging around until she discovers a horrible secret.
Positives
First: performances. Off the charts. Sarah Paulson delivers yet another creepy and scary character to life, as she perfectly plays the role of an overprotective (and psycho) mother. Kiera Allen is also amazing, and the fact that she actually uses a wheelchair in real life adds a whole other level of authenticity in her performance. Every time she has to crawl or get to a place without her wheelchair, you can feel the effort and struggle it takes her to get there.
That’s about it in titular characters. It is a very simple and self-contained movie. We don’t see that many locations or characters, but for this type of film, it is actually positive. It has a laser focus narrative that doesn’t waste any time on unnecessary things. Every scene pushes the plot and the intrigue forward.
The editing of the movie is reminiscent of Hitchcock films. Even if the story is not precisely classic horror material, the shots combined with the score give the movie a very eerie vibe that will keep you at the edge of your seat.
There aren’t many great horror films this year, and while this one is not that scary, it is definitely a good time and a worthwhile film.
