This is a non-spoiler review for Paddington 2.
One of everyone’s favorite cubs is back with his own sequel. In the first film, we saw Paddington reform your typical British family and his neighborhood. Now, the character you had grown to love meets an even tougher task: He is sent into prison for a crime he didn’t commit, after attempting to catch the actual robber.
This time Hugh Grant appears as Paddington’s antagonist after he frames the cub of stealing an old popping book about London. Paddington wanted to gift that book to her Aunt Lucy for her 100th birthday. In order to do so, he started working hard as a window cleaner and saved every penny for it. The sweetness of Paddington’s intentions came from the fact that he wanted to give her something that could transport her Aunt to London, the city she most wanted to see throughout her entire life.
As always, Paddington 2 is full of visually stunning montages that align themselves perfectly with the kind tone of the film. This is a very creative and aesthetically pleasing film with its unique ways of storytelling through its cinematographic decisions. Keep an eye for the marmalade making montage in prison. It’s a true delight to watch.
The execution of some actions and the behavior of its character transmit a cartoonish vibe. This vibe fits perfectly with the story and you’ll never interrupt your suspension of disbelief. You accept those cartoonish cheats and embrace them because that’s what Paddington is.
This vibe also permeates through the ridiculous exaggeration of how Paddington can change his surroundings for the better. He does bring out the best in people. This, of course, is absolutely heartwarming to see in action. You’ll see this effect during the whole runtime of the film.
The optimism and politeness of Paddington is something that will put you in the best of moods because Paddington IS the feel-good story by EXCELLENCE (If you want to read about another great feel-good story, click here).
Paddington’s impact is such, that his absence from the neighborhood is heavily noted in just a few days. When Paddington isn’t in the neighborhood, you can really see how everybody else needs him. That little cub is the light of many people’s lives. His attitude is aimed to not only try and uplift everybody within the story but also whoever is watching this film. Watching him can actually motivate you to be kinder.

Paddington 2 is a very solid film. You’ll become invested in the story. It does a good job executing the comedy bits. Also, you’ll definitely end up with a grin in our face because Paddington’s films defined the feel-good story by their excellence.
