This review contains mild spoilers for the film Fractured.
Fractured is a Netflix film that is centered around a recovering alcoholic in his second marriage, who, after an accident involving his daughter, is convinced that the hospital is plotting against him, as he is unable to find his wife & daughter inside.
This movie has an average plot at its best and doesn’t stand out for its performances, or other technical aspects. On the other hand, Fractured is a film that uses curiosity and anxiety as its by-the-default ambiance.
You walk in with a sense of dread that is set up by default since you click the play button. Just by the name itself, you know it’s going to be psychological and this plays with your feelings. All the time up until the inciting accident you are expecting something to go terribly wrong, and the movie toys with your expectations for what feels like a long time. After this, the movie becomes a puzzle.
Like many movies of the genre, you also enter the film instantly trying to figure out and link each piece of the puzzle. For this movie, in particular, this becomes easily predictable. Although, the fact that Fractured has a predictable plot, doesn’t mean it is not a pleasurable movie experience.

The movie seems to know its predictability and toys with the curiosity of the viewer by how it puzzles together the final reveal:
Could it be a real cover-up? Hallucinations from the concussion? A more severe disease or trauma? Or else?
In fact, maybe what’s best from the movie is how it makes you play with your own possible theories by how it manages to release the clues towards Ray’s psyche & how he views his own reality.
